It is absolutely staggering. Not everyone is a household name (no matter
how small your household) but there are a few that most musicians (and many
writers) will recognize: Robert Russell Bennett, Marc Blitzstein, Paul
Bowles, Aaron Copland...and the alphabet goes on from there.
Didn't we have this conversation several years ago--about how some
less-than-great players (Leon Russianoff's name won't leave my head)
nevertheless can be great teachers who "midwife" generations of great players?
