Just to clarify:
Nadia Boulanger was a guru to composers back in the '20's, 30's and
into the '70's. She had a studio in France where composers from
everywhere came to sit at her feet and learn from eachother. Among her
most famous pupils were Americans; Aaron Copland, Roy Harris and Virgil
Thompson come to mind.
Clearly, this is a quote from a professional musician, intended for
the ears of others intent on dedicating their life to this field.
