Rebecca,

If the bar is not set high enough, you will never know how high you can
jump! Do your best. Make up your mind to do better next time. Enjoy the
music. And, above all, don't give up.

When I was in high school there was a girl (eew!) who beat me out every
time. The last time we competed we were each called back three times. She
gave up the instrument after college - I'm still playing 30 years later.
I'm not playing anything like full time, I'm not always first chair - and
I could care less. It gives me the opportunity to continue to learn.
