Does anyone else here play piano and clarinet? I've been preparing for a
performance on Sunday. Our woodwind quintet is playing part of the program
and we're doing a flute/clarinet/piano trio that I've had to put in about 2
hours of practice in on at the piano. I haven't been able to practice this
much in a long time but as my piano technique has improved and strengthened
along with the practice, my clarinet technique has improved also. I've
noticed this in the past also and just wondered if anyone else here has had
that experience or if anyone uses piano technique exercises to help with
their clarinet technique.

Hi Christy, I studied Piano at the University Level with Alexander Fiorillo
who was one of the only five students whom Vladimir Horowitz taught. I find
that Piano and Clarinet are quite different. There are many great studies
which will improve your Clarinet Technique with hard work. As you wrote that
your practicing time is limited or has been, I'm wondering that if you
practiced more on Clarinet your technique would improve as well. My
sight-reading is quite strong and possibly that was from the Piano
background as Piano music is much harder to read than Clarinet.
