to get as many different perspectives and learn as much about my instrument
as I can while I'm there. So I figured this list would be the best place to
ask about teachers. Who is around, who is willing, etc. etc.

Well if you don`t want to travel up to Oxford where a certain member of this
list lives and teaches, then you`ll need to stay in London. All you have to
do is to walk into an underground train station where you`ll find lots of
buskers willing to give you a quick lesson. No, seriously, for this short
amount of time you will be here, to make contact with a teacher before you
get to London, may have one or two disadvantages. We have underground train
"lines" which are not operating at present due to bad servicing, so if this
continues somewhat you may find you will not be able to get around quite so
easily. There are buses, and cabs of course.
I would wait till you get here, then make contact. If you contact me off
list I will give you some player/teachers names from our Musician`s Union
Directory. There is also the option to visit the colleges, get a prospectus
and look at the list of professors, where you may then be able to contact
them privately - I don`t believe the colleges themselves will come forth
with private telephone numbers. Go as soon as you arrive, they will be
closing down shortly after for their summer break. Or you could visit one of
the many music shops, Howarths being a particularly good one. They have a
list of teachers who live in London. "Cass" is also another very good
source - www.cassgb.co.uk

But when all said and done, if you really want to see the countyside as well
as London, and spend about £125 $200(?) for an hour`s magic, then the trip
out to Oxford will be an experience for you.
(I hope he`ll slip me 10%.)
