I disagree. While it shouldn't be taken to extremes, this philosophy is
the road to mediocrity in any area.

Comparisons are important to determine:
1. I am good enough or can I be good enough to be a pro?
2. What do I need to work on?
3. How good to I need to be to play in a particular group?
etc.

These questions aren't really limited to students, either, but can apply at
any age.

Gary
