Once I was the best little clarinet player in Gloucester, Massachusetts. I
went to Berklee College of Music and learned that that didn't mean very
much. Six years later I was first call low woodwind player in Boston and I
went to New York. That was an eye opener. And I began to run into my limits.
25 years later I'm getting back into playing and writing after a long
layoff. What does all of this mean in West Virginia? Not much. Follow your
heart and take the players that you find who are better than you as a
challenge. The bad news is that you will always find someone better. The
good news is that you can always improve.
