Rebecca, just learned she is living a dream, not a reality.

So live the dream. To many people look back on their lives and wish they would have lived some of their dreams. As for skill. Do your best no one can ask any more. It's noble you want to be the best. But don't let it stop you if someone is better at something than you. When I was in high school I played first chair clarinet. Didn't go to college and stopped playing for several years. Now I play in a municipal band. I'm last chair. The first year that sort of bothered me, but I figured I was the new person so what could I do. I could walk out because I wasn't where I wanted to be, or I could play with a band, something I had really missed. We'll three years later I'm still last chair and it doesn't bother me one bit. I love doing it. I was talked out of a career in music by well meaning parents and guidance consolers. I'm sorry I let them convince me to not continue. There are so many aspects of music that you can make a career out of. If you don't make it in performance there is arranging, composing, teaching etc.. And if you have to get a real job while you are waiting for your break so be it. How many actresses do you hear about that were waitresses before they got their big break. It might not be easy. It will be worth it. Even if you can't support yourself wholly with your music, if your happy you have lived your dream.
