Riders on homeowner's policies are almost never reasonably priced and
have all sorts of little gotchas to leave you uncovered (or less than
fully covered).

I have State Farm. I was originally told that I was covered as long as
I wasn't a "professional" musician. Turns out that their definition of
pro is getting *any* compensation. If I get a free beer playing a
benefit or school gig or someone pays for my gas, I'm suddenly a
"pro"...

They also don't cover loss of value due to repair, loss due to
neglect, etc.

Get real instrument insurance. It's pretty cheap. Check out both of
these; coverage differs and one may be better for you. Prices are
similar:

Clarion <http://www.clarionins.com/>

Heritage <http://www.heritage-ins-services.com/national.htm>

It's something like $30/year + $0.30/$100 covered. They also cover
books, stands, PA gear, cases, etc. It's pricy for a $300 instrument
but well worth it for any instrument you cherish.

If you're in the musician's union, they have even better deals on
insurance.
