Rebecca,
It is very nice that you love the clarinet so very much,
and I know how you feel. But just PLEASE remember
that "things" are replaceable, and your life is not!
This reminds me of a story:
A friend of mine has a similar experience with his car,
only his really WAS on fire. And the first thing he thought
of was his BASSOON. He was in there getting it out, with
the engine on fire and all! And a passer-by stopped with
a fire extinguisher and yelled, "Get out of that car!"
He got out, (but not before he saved the bassoon). The
fire singed his beard, eyebrows, and some of his hair,
and had a "Rudolph" nose for about a week after.
He had been on his way to meet me and the rest of our quintet
to warm up a little before a gig. Talk about commitment!!!
He left the car behind (AFTER they put out the fire) and
the guy who put the fire out gave him a lift into town. He then
called his wife and asked,
"Could you bring me a clean shirt? This one's a little soiled."
Talk about a trooper!!!!
But anyway, as attached as we are to our instruments, there
is a point where we can go too far. It could have been much
worse in his case, and in yours.
I would rather be alive and have to replace the instrument.
There's LOTS of Buffets out there!
(I imagine your mom has already given you a lecture on the
subject)
Sue
