I didn't see that so I won't take credit. What I meant was that the 3
musicians would play billiards while a non-musical act or one that used their
own canned music was on stage then 5 minutes before the singer or dance troupe
went on they went to their music, put on headphones and waited for their cue.

The last circus gig I played had the conductor playing the trumpet part, a
drummer and a bass player, the rest of the of the band just sat with their
music and horns at ready just in case something happened to the electronics.
If something did happen we were to play a number or 2 while the sound guys
either fixed or hooked up a second set of their equipment and got ready to
catch up to the next tune, then we were to stop playing when they took over
again. We never did have to play.
