The Bay neck would put the mouthpiece at a more vertical position in
relation to your mouth. I don't think that would help much as the end of
the mouthpiece would be higher in general.

In the past, when needed, I have always used a set of phone books wrapped in
black electrical tape or something similar to sit upon.(usually to play BBb
Contra for me) You could get a chair with adjustable height. Of course the
problem is taking it with you.

There is a foldable stool made that is fairly easy to carry about that is
not too expensive. It is intended for people who cannot walk far distances
and need to sit at a moments notice. This could help by getting you higher
and letting the bass clarinet be in a more proper position for playing.

Perhaps that is your answer.

Another idea may be to carry some wooden or aluminum feet for the chair that
raise it 2 inches or so. This would have a downsize of possibly coming off
when he chair moves. (could put casters on them) but has the advantage that
you could build it yourself.

Hope that helps.

I wonder if any of you have a suggestion for a height-challenged Bass
clarinetist. I lower the pad on my new Buffet low-C as low as it goes, yet
the position of the mouthpiece is untenable and my neck is bent oddly. It
works ok if I sit on a thick telephone book (Boston or larger). Any
suggestions? Would the Bay neck help? Thanks.
