Sitting on books is standard as is stacking two or three chairs on top
of each other. The Bass clarinetist in the Memphis Symphony does this!
The stage hands are trained and have three stacked just for her!
The bay neck aims the mouthpiece upwards and not straight out, so the
height problem would be worse.
