I received the other day a shipment of three of Richard's new Model B Bb
mouthpieces and one Eb mouthpiece, and I must say that I am impressed. I've
been playing on his older facing for many years now and this new design is a
real improvement for me. The sound is much fuller, great intonation, with a
real ring, a nice rich core (darker?) and the response is great at ppp and
fff. Great articulation with lots of pop.
The Eb 'piece is incredible. It makes my Lurie sound like a Bundy (sorry
Mitchell). Intonation up to altissimo G is dead on. Both my Buffet and
Patricola Efers sound more soprano clarinet like on the new mp. Vandoren 3
1/2 and 4s work great on this mouthpiece.
Sure these mps are a bit expensive... $115 for the Eb and $155 for the
Bb...... but it sure beats buying a new head joint for a flute!
I've been working up "Il Convegno" to perform with a colleague in May and I
found the new mp made practicing today almost effortless. A very
comfortable mp on the chops it is (to paraphraseYoda).
