I have been sent a clarinet part for Mozart's Sonata for piano and violin in
B flat K 454 with a proposal to publish it, along with a suggestion that it
was originally written for clarinet.I am taking the first idea seriously and
seek opinions about playing carefully selected transcriptions. Who knows
the work? The second idea is nonsense. K454 was written for the 20 yrs
old Italian virtuoso Regina Strinasacchi (1964-1839). When she first
played it in public, with the composer in Vienna in 1784, only the
violin part had been written out, reportedly!

This message was initially addressed to the clarinet discussion group but I
have also sent out 49 blind copies elsewhere. Recipients of blind copies
should not feel obliged to reply, but if you do, (thank you), I shall have
an opportunity to compare your views with others.

Many thanks,
Mike Bryant
