Jeremy,

Watkins music is actually INSIDE "The Music Store" also known as
"The Flute Store" as they had sheet music and flutes prior to
Jonathan being there. Their address is 44 West 62nd Street, but
are actually located on Columbus almost directly across from the
City Opera part of Lincoln Center between 61st and 62nd. The
building is 62nd Street, but the entrance is not.

The sheet music there at "The Music Store" isn't as extensive as
it is some other places, but I find most method books for
woodwinds there, and they have been supplying my students with
manuscript paper, flash cards, and other things for years
because of consistency, great and knowledgeable customer
service, and good prices.

The number for Jonathan is 212-541-9146 (separate number from
the main "Music Store" number) and they are open 10-6 M-Sat.
Tiffany, the double reed player from the WW&BW store on 23rd is
there also working with Jonathan. Good accessory selection,
although not quite as extensive as the WW&BW was (because of
space constraints) but still a very well stocked store. Anything
not on the shelves, Jonathan will get in with little fanfare, so
I am really pleased to still be able to shop with him. He is
getting a shipment of the Kooiman Etude thumbrests in this week
for my students.

Also, I'm glad Guy Chadash could help you out. He is a little
pricey, but I found that his overhaul was the same price at the
time as the one I had Brannen in Chicago do for me in 1999, and
I was so much more satisfied with Guy's work that I lament not
seeking him out first. I also get a GREAT deal of help by
choosing barrels directly from him, as opposed to the stores. I
get the same great customer service with Clark Fobes barrels and
mouthpieces when I have seen him.

Do you know about the D'addario Vandoren Studio on the 6th floor
at 250 54th Street a few doors down from Studio 54? David Gould
is the vendor there for Vandoren, and stocks mouthpieces,
ligatures, and reeds there, PLUS, since he is a vendor and not a
store, the store of your choice gets the sale, not him (i.e. no
commission, no price haggling, no extensive stock for a local
store to have to keep up.) His number is 212-399-9457 and he is
in ONLY on Monday and Friday until 5 PM, but definitely call to
make sure he is there. A great way to support local stores AND
have the IMMENSE selection of Vandoren products that are
there...and I do mean IMMENSE! When all of the local stores had
a run on V12 3.5 reeds, David had 30 boxes there (that's not a
lot for him.) When a student of mine wanted to try out Vandoren
mouthpieces, she narrowed it down to the M30 mouthpiece she
plays on now, David had 12 of them in stock...not just 12
Vandoren mouthpieces, but 12 Vandoren M30s! David is also very
knowledgeable about the Vandoren line, and a great player
himself.

Another reason to check out the 250 54th Street building is
Frank Music. They are on the 10th floor, and have a HUGE
selection of music, including most of the standards. Very
knowledgeable people there too. Just don't try to call
them...they very rarely answer the phone and refuse to get an
answering machine, plus process credit cards by hand...you get
the picture. Nice people, but technophobes. Great sheet music
resource, and they DO special order music if you need it.

Hope this helps...
