Joseph, I know that this isn't what you want to hear; but unless you've
done so already, I suggest that you visit with an experienced teacher
(probably as part of a lesson) before you waste a long trip somewhere
for repairs.

Portions of your description of the problems don't fit together
properly. An experienced teacher may be able to clarify the situation
for you and save you some wasted effort & money.
