Subj: [kl] Dan Leeson on Mazzeo

Dan,

Well my memory is fading too, but I don't recall playing the Mozart adagio
for Rosario. I think that was a concert to which I was not invited (ahem).
I believe the ensemble was Mark Brandenburg (clarinet) Janet Averett
(clarinet), Sheryl Renk (Clarinet), Tony Striplen (B,H) and Dan Leeson
(B.H).

One of my favorite memories of Mozart, Dan Leeson, Mazzeo and Basset Horns
was our performance of one the Mozart Basset Horn Trios on a chamber music
series in Monterey. The ensemble was Tony Striplen, Clark Fobes and Dan
Leeson. For those of you that don't know, Dan Leeson is one of the world's
foremost scholars on Mozart. He edited the edition of wind music for the
definitive Neu Mozart Ausgabe. He is also the editor of the Breitkopf &
Hartel edition of Mozart's "Gran Partita". Dan correct me here if I goofed
anything up.

At this concert Dan served as master of ceremonies and stand up comic. I
have never laughed so hard during a concert as when Dan made an impromptu
mini--lecture on scatology in Mozart letters! In addition to all of that
fun, the performance went extremely well. I would say, Dan, that Rosario's
greatest compliment may have been the tears of joy he had when
congratulating us on such a fine performance. He was such an old softy!
