Bill,

The taper does a lot more than just change the tuning. It
affects color of the sound, AND projection along with the
differences in tuning.

My Clark Fobes, Chadash, and Moennig barrels all really help
pitch in different ways, but I play different ones for different
sound colors in my playing. The tapers are all somewhat
different. I get a LOT more projection from all of these barrels
too (than a stock barrel with the instrument.) The combination
with your setup has a lot to do with which one works best for
you, so try different models and see which you like the most,
then try a bunch of any barrel model you decide on to find the
one that is best for you, just like a mouthpiece.
