I'd like to ask a second question which is related to my previous
'mouthpiece pitch' question.

Is the same line of thought (about tuning relationships between upper
registers) the principle reason for choosing a particular taper in the
barrel? Or does the barrel contribute to some other major quality
besides tuning?
