Hi:
Several days ago I wrote the list about the Marcellus M08 asking how it
compared to the old Marcellus M08.

I ordered one and it arrived Friday and I've had a chance to play it for a
few hours, some of which was with my teacher who plays an original
Marcellus M08. Based on sound and rough measurements, they appear
identical. I had been playing a Vandoren 5RV and although a good MP, the
Marcellus works much better for me. With the 5RV my Concerto was sharp and
got sharper in the upper registers. We tested the Marcellus and the pitch
was very close from the bottom to G6. It is working well with both Legere
and Gonazales reeds. The Marcellus also is much more stable in the
altissimo for me than the 5RV was. The tone, IMHO is also much improved.

For reference, I play a Concerto, Rovner Dark Lig., Gonzales Reeds 3 1/4-3
1/2, Legere 3.5 reeds.
My teacher, Ann Wilcheck Schuessler, plays a Yamaha, with Vandoren v12 4's
although she likes the FOF reads she's gotten from me. So the mouthpiece
seems to support a range of reed strengths.
Best
RW
