Another way to keep a cane reed wet is to stuff a small amount of
toilet paper or facial tissue into the end of the mouthpiece cap. Wet
the wad with a small amount of tap water. Your mouthpiece cap is now a
humidor. Remember to remove the wet glob of tissue from the end of the
cap at the end of each playing session and dry the cap's interior with
your clarinet swab.

Why not cut a sponge to size and wet that? You won't have to worry about the
tissue ripping.
