Subj: [kl] Vandoren 2RV versus the 5RV
Date: Sun, 23 Feb 2003 09:44:10 -0500

This is a quote from the Vandoren WEB site Frequently
asked Questions:

"What is the difference between a 2RV and 5RV
mouthpiece?
The 2RV and 5RV are identical. When the item number
was changed, it created some confusion, so the older
item number was reinstated. Both are available."

BTW, thanks for all the responses regarding
mouthpieces and recommendations. Just to answer some
of the questions: I use a Vandoren strenght 4 reed, I
used the same mouthpiece that came with my Malerne
when I bought it new in '75. The reason I even
considered a new mouthpiece was that I could not
produce consistency in the very high (Altissimo?)
registers. For years I thought it was me. I finaly got
a second clarinet and low and behold, I had no problem
with these notes. Not convinced that it was my Malerne
(who truly has an exquisite sound) I blammed it on the
mouth piece. So I bought the 2RV

The 2RV changed that the moment I used it. So the
benifits of using it are there. I simply need to adapt
my emboucher and abjust breath control. I still
haven't decided if the tone quality is any better (or
any worst).
