" The artist-quality silver clarinets I've seen (H. Bettony,
Haynes) have very shiny bores. Alexander Williams told me he played a
silver
H. Bettony in the New York Philharmonic, and both Abe Galper and Pamela
Weston say that Gaston Hamelin played a silver instrument (probably a
Selmer)
in the Boston Symphony. (A picture I've seen of Hamelin shows the
instrument.)"
Ken Shaw

A dozen years ago I wrote to Patrick Selmer, at the suggestion of
StanGarber, regarding various topics. In response to my question about the
year the manufacture of silver Selmer clarinets was discontinued, he
referred only to plated models, as if the coin silver model didn't exist.
I was shown the double walled model at the Haynes Company by Mr. Lois
Deveau, who I found to be a devoted craftsman, a gracious host and an able
historian. Any further information regarding artist silver clarinets would
be greatly appreciated..
