Very true, Mark. And probably the only alternative is a 2 year waiting list
and relatively astronomic prices, cum Loree or Haines or (I'm having a brain
cramp - I can't remember the equivalent top bassoon maker) while they do all
that hand work at the factory that Moennig did in his shop and that now
Brannen and other wonderful technicians have learned to do routinely.
Despite our previous gripe sessions on this subject, I doubt if
mass-produced instruments like the ones that roll out of the Buffet, Selmer
and Leblanc factories can ever be totally finished products, guaranteeing
that the clarinet techs will always have a job.

I still can't think of the bassoon manufacturer's name - I know it will come
to me the second I hit the <send> key but it's driving me crazy! Oh well,
here goes...
