My guess is that the two problems are related. I don't understand your
feeling of LESS back-pressure when it seems that you are facing INCREASED
resistance. It won't allow any more air in, and that is why you are
getting leakage (and "squeak-age"). All that pressure you are trying to
force through the mouthpiece has to go SOMEWHERE. It sounds like me when I
play my O'Brien OB*. It has a very narrow tip opening and I always feel
like I want to put MORE air in to get more volume, but it will simply not
accept any more.
