Knowing full well how all the variables could affect the outcome, I played
six clarinets the day I bouth my new r-13 last month. Two new r-13s, one
used r-13, one selmer signature, and a leblanc opus. In the end I selected
the r-13 that spoke the best that day. The selmer was wonderful, but
somewhat muted. If I were going to be doing only symphonic work and needed
that kind of control I would reconsider it. The leblanc was scary. Very
bright and light. Too wonderful perhaps. Hindsight being what it is, I
wonder if I selected well. On the other hand, the r-13 I bought is a winner,
and about to be Brannenized.
