I was recently in the market for new clarinets, and I tried several
different makes/models, including the R13, Selmer Signature, and Leblanc
Concerto. I was not at all impressed with the R13; my old one from 1976 was
still better than the new ones I tried. I thought the Signature sounded a
lot like a good R13 (not sure if that was Selmer's intent, but it wouldn't
surprise me). Eventually, though, I went with a pair of Concertos (Bb and
A), as for me, they played and sounded substantially better than any of the
other instruments I tried. But if I just *had* to have that R13 sound, I
would have gone with the Signature.

Regards,

Andy
