We do like to throw rocks at plastic clarinets, as being less worthy
than Mpingo.

YET:
1. Many of us use delron barrels made by J. Pyne, R. Scott, Springer,
Grabner, Bay, etc.
2. Many players have embraced the 'plastic' Legere reeds.
3. Loree has made plastic upper joints for their top oboes for years.
4. I too have refaced many plastic mouthpieces (thank you Clark and
Roger) and they sound might fine!

So, maybe a delron clarinet with the right bore and proper undercutting
would be wonderful? Maybe an expensive (or cheap...we must hope)
polymer would provide the sound qualities and response we desire, along
with the structural density for holding the tension of the keywork and
springs.

30 years ago who would admit to non-wood barrels and plastic reeds?
100 years ago who would ever want to switch from wood mouthpieces to
those modern rubber ones?

Enough rectorial questions, it is time to go lecture on architecture of
500's Byzantium/Constantinople!
