Open message to Clark Fobes and the Klarinet List:

Hello everyone - just stopping in for a brief moment!

Well over a year ago, I posted (in response to Clark Fobes' post) regarding
plastic mouthpieces - that I would never have a student purchase them in
lieu of a hard rubber mouthpiece - even if the plastic was a good one. My
reasoning was that the student would eventually have to upgrade anyway -
and that for a few bucks more, they could get a nice hard rubber mouthpiece.

This post today is to retract that earlier post - and offer apologies to
Clark! Not only have I been asked to make these darned plastic mouthpieces
for beginning players as part of school programs, the teachers have
reported great luck with them. In turn, I have also found the blanks to be
of very consistent and high quality. While my thoughts about the plastic
not holding the "sound" quite as effectively as a good hard rubber
mouthpiece - the sheer quality/consistency makes these very
worthwhile. And students benefit greatly from having them made
available. For those of you who have purchased Clark's Debut mouthpieces
for your students - I hope you continue to do so!

Best wishes,
Roger Garrett
