Robyn,

Many (most?) student grade Eb clarinets (like Bundy) are what you call
4-piece, and the cases require only that the MP be removed - the rest of it
goes into the case as is. (At least my Bundy does.) Maybe not a great
idea to leave the corks compressed in the case, but it does suggest that
there might be a usable case from a discarded instrument out there, if you
approached your music store or school band program.
