Wouldn't it be easier to learn to transpose while playing? You will meet
more parts written for C-clarinet, for instance in the Schubert symphonies.
It will save you a lot of time. The alternative Dan Leeson probably would
propagate: to buy a C-instrument is no option for the normal amateur, unless
you have an overfilled wallet.
