If I am correct on this matter, Stanley is the longest tenured player
ever to have been part of the NY Philharmonic, any seat. He may even be
the longest tenured clarinetist in any American Orchestra. I remember
his magnificent playing when he first entered the orchestra as E-flat
and assistant to McGinnis.

On a personal level, I have always looked at Stanley as if he were a 16
cylinder car for which there was no orchestral repertoire that required
him to use more than 12 cylinders, and damn little of that, too.
