My experience is that yes indeed the reed needs a little warming up.
However, if it only feels or sounds good after an hour you probably need a
little lighter reed. Depending on what I did the day before, I often start
on a 31/4 reed only to move on to a 31/2 reed after a while.
In general, I rotate my reeds after an hour of playing no matter what.
Obviously the sound I am looking or actually listening for determines my reed
selection.
I am currently on a concert tour and I will be playing on Legere reeds
exclusively.
