Mostly they are playing very close-faced mouthpieces in strict classical
style. Those of us who play in bands rather than orchestra, and especially
those of us who play jazz, tend to use more open mouthpieces and softer
reeds to gain volume and flexibility of intonation (bending notes, vibrato,
etc.).
