It is my understanding that Carpal Tunnel affects the thumb, index
finger, and middle finger. So Jim's problem must be something else.

Jim, maybe your doctor would refer you to a physical therapist,
preferably one that deals in upper body issues. I had 18 months of
physical therapy for a hand problem, and got treatments and exercises
which eventually solved my problem. I'd highly recommend this course of
action before letting the surgeons cut!
