Subj: [kl] Legere friendly mouthpiece
Date: Sat, 1 Feb 2003 09:29:33 -0500

I'm mentioning this because this topic was was brought up a few weeks ago.

Someone asked if there were mouthpieces specifically designed for the Legere reed. I replied that I had tried several years ago to develop a Legere-friendly mouthpiece, but did not come up with anything that specifically seemed to take advantage of the attributes of the Legere reed.

However, just this week, I have been working on a new mouthpiece "model", and yesterday I was trying different reeds on it for comparison purposes.

What I found was that the reed I liked the best was one of the Legere reeds that I carry in my case. The combination of mouthpiece, barrel (more on this later) and Legere reed made a wonderfully responsive - and forgive me here Dan - DARK sound which I immediately liked a lot. I'm going to be trying it out in several halls in the next couple of weeks to make sure it works in various acoustical settings.

Anyway - I am very excited, because while I have admired the Legere reeds for several years, I have always found some cane reeds which sounded "better" . In this test, the Legere sounded as good as, or superior to, my best cane reeds.

More on this later...but what FUN!
