Subject: [kl] Klose ???

I've been informed by the local music store (and verified on Pepper's
website) that the Klose Celebrated Method for Clarinet is now permanently
out of print. I've been using it for years with my high school intermediate
and up students. (Actually, I still have my threadbare Staats edition I
used in high school ... and paid $3 for the complete book.) This came up
when I ordered a Part 1 for a student whose parents are a bit straped for
cash and didn't feel they could afford the complete book. Apparently, the
jobber sent the complete edition to the music shop. I picked it up, and
thinking there was a problem, asked them to reorder it. I guess I'll give
her the complete and just charge what Part 1 would have cost.

But the problem: Obviously, I use other books, as well, but have always
considered the Klose to be the "grounding" book, because it coveres so much
in so many different ways. Almost any problem a student is having, there's
something in the Klose to work on to correct the problem.

What do any of you recommend as a general comprehensive manual to take the
place of the Klose? (Or does anyone plan to take over publication of the
current edition?

All suggestions appreciated!

Jim Hobby
