Subj: [kl] Ligatures vs reeds
Date: Mon, 27 Jan 2003 12:15:33 -0500

One of the screws on my Harrison ligature finally stripped irrepairably at
last weeks rehearsal, so it made a good excuse to get a new ligature.
After reading the comments about how well the Rovner's mated with the
Legere reeds, I decided to try the Rovner Dark.

I admit that I was dubious. I didn't think a ligature would make that
much difference. Well, I was wrong. The difference between the Harrison
and the Rovner Dark is significant. Many of the cane reeds that played
well before now sound rather thin. And, as others have mentioned, it seems
to have added new life to my Legeres; I feel that I'm getting more "sound"
than I was before, and the response into the altissimo is much more
predictable.

The Rovner can be used either screw-in-front or screw-in-back, and there is
a detectable difference between those two. I suspect I have many weeks of
pleasurable experimentation ahead of me. Color me happy.
