It's been a few years--that was 1971. I suppose now, a full two
generations since NFLD joined the confederation, things may be
a little different.

On my way out there, I got a bit of a hassle from an immigration
officer in Toronto, who suspected I was a draft dodger, had never
heard of Argentia, and wasn't too sure about Newfoundland. When
it finally occurred to me to show him a copy of my travel orders
and I told him he could keep a copy, since I had 29 more, he just
sent me on my way without looking at it: "If it's 30 copies,
it must be your government."
