I miss Bill! I thought he was one of the wittiest and most helpful of the
list members. I think Shadow Cat secretly misses Manny the Major Mynah, too,
although she would never admit it. If anyone's currently in touch with Bill
Wright, please feel free to pass along this message to him, because my last
attempts to e-mail him bounced.

The last messages from Bill to this list had to do with his irritation about
getting too much spam and too many attempts to infect his computer with
viruses. He changed his e-mail address several times, then said that he was
leaving this list (and apparently much of his other Internet activity)
because of the spam problem. I guess he changed his e-mail address again
subsequently. Since he was using an e-mail service that's got a reputation
for not protecting its customers' privacy, I had the impression that he
over-estimated how much of his spam came from advertisers and pranksters
harvesting e-mail addresses from this list. Hope he changes his mind and
comes back.

Which reminds me--I also hope people will lobby senators and congressional
representatives to pass that telemarketing control bill, and to pass a
similar spam-control law. If driving people nuts starts to hurt these
advertisers in the wallet, they'll . . . aw, they'll just find some other way
to drive people nuts, let's face it; but at least we'll have some recourse.
