Below are excerpts Brian Schweickhardt's obituary in the Sacramento Bee,
January 10, 2003, Sacramento, California.

"A tribute to Brian Schweickhardt, virtuoso clarinetist and beloved 'Mr.
Music' to scores of Sacramento school children, will be held at the Sierra
II Community Center at 4:00 today, Friday. Schweickhardt died at age 58 on
tuesday, January 7, 2003. Schweickhardt's passion for music dominated his
life and was articulated not only in the artistry of his musical
performances, but also in his undeviating dedication to the education of
both children and adults. His wit was legendary, his reading voracious,
his intellect keen, his musical prowess exceptional. Born in Phoenix,
Arizona on March 11, 1944, he graduated from Scottsdale High School,
studied at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and earned an
undergraduate degree form the Cleveland Institute of Music, He earned a
Master's Degree from University of Michigan and persued doctoral studies
there. Recently he earned a Masters of Education degree with distinction
from National University in Sacramento. He was Assistant Principal
Clarinetist with the Detroit Symphony for 12 seasons. In 1984 he became
the Principal Clarinetist with the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra.
Schweickhardt recorded for Columbia, Decca, London, Mercury, Coronet, and
others. He produced two solo albums, The Composer's Clarinet, Volume I and
II." "He was a key component in gaining a VH1 Grant for Bret Harte"
Elementary School "in 2001 in which 30 orchestra instruments were provided
to the school. Schweickhardt formed and taught one of the few elementary
school orchestras in the state."
