At the ClarinetFest at Ohio State a few years ago, i bought a triple case
(Eb, Bb, A) made by Orly in Paris. IMS and Muncy both used carry these
cases, I haven't noticed if they still do.

The body of the case is made of a kind of foam or something that's
lightweight but very sturdy. The top and bottom portions of the case are
hinged, an the covered in a thick nylon, water resist material, much like a
thick version of an Altieri bag, only it's attached to the body.
So far the case cover hasn't needed replacing, and i've carried this case
with me to several conventions, all over college campuses and everything.

The clarinets rest in compartments that fir the ends of the joints snugly,
the bottom of the compartments are very well cushioned, as is the top half
of the case.

I didn't look at the double cases, because i play Eb so much that i just
assume carry it around instead of another case. But this triple case, with
all three instruments in it, plus 3 mouthpieces, 3 wood reed cases, and some
other accessories, weighs about the same as a Buffet brown attache souble
case with just two clarinets and nothing else.

The triple case has optional backpack straps, or you can take one of the
straps and just use it as a shoulder strap. I'm not sure if the double has
that option or not.

So i imagine the double Orly case would be even lighter. Everyone is always
amazed at how light the case is with all the stuff in it. And i always
recommend the Orly cases to people who complain about heavy cases, yet they
always seem to go with the Pro-Tec which are heavier, and neve seem to fit
the clarinet very well. Every Pro-Tech case i've seen lets the clarinet
roll around just asking for more maintainance.

Best of luck,
Daniel

I have a huge double clarinet case and bag. It is very heavy and I rarely
like to carry it around. I've had it since high school (13 years ago) and
am ready to give it up.

Where can I find a light, thin double clarinet case for a good price? And
maybe a nice stylish bag . . .
