In the movie "Waterworld," the subject of which is the destruction of
civilization and the loss of land, most of the severely reduced
population lives on the water. Trivial things, such as a pot with dirt
in it, become very valuable and are collected accordingly.

In one scene, the central character/hero shows up at one of the outposts
where people live and he is captured with all of his "things" brought
out for examination. One of the things is a completely assembled
clarinet and no one can figure out what it is. So one character inserts
the mouthpiece in his ear and says, "This is a spy tool that enables our
conversations to be heard," or something to that effect.

No one plays the instrument of course, and no one could because it is so
dirty, full of mud, and bedraggled.
