it all depends on the director quite honestly. some
don't really care for technical skills and focus more
on intonation and tone quality, where there are others
who care more for technical ability. if you know what
the orchestra is planning on playing that term that
could also influence what the director wants to hear.
it's always best to show both sides of your ability.
take the 32 rose etude book and choose one that is
fast and one that is slow. when i auditioned for the
orchestra last year i got in because i have a fast
tongue and fingers, but for the wind ensemble it was
for tone and how well in tune i could play. i suggest
numbers 4 and 25 in the 32 rose etude book. that
shows all aspects of your playing and would be good
for any audition. they also happen to be favorite of
the 32. ;) good luck to you.
