Sorry to respond to my own post, but would it be possible that naming an
instrument "low-pitch" that is shorter than the standard be a misnomer?
One would think something shorter would be higher pitched. Just an
afterthought...

Wouldn't the low-pitch clarinet be longer than the standard Bb instead
of being shorter? I really don't know anything about the older

Many such instruments have the letters "LP" engraved on the upper joint=20
or the barrel. They are, of course, shorter than the standard B-flat=20
clarinet.
