Dee, I've seen the advice before about pulling the middle joint out, usually
as part of a recommendation to pull a little at all the joints instead of
pulling out a lot at one point - usually the barrel - to get a clarinet down
that is playing sharp. What happens to the connection between the bridge
keys? If my bridge keys are even slightly out of alignment, my "forked" (1st
finger of each hand) Bb/Eb doesn't play cleanly. Doesn't the leverage change
when you separate the keys? Not to mention the wobble I get when I've tried
experimentally to play with the middle joint pulled apart. Do you find
playing with the middle joint apart uncomfortable or in any way unstable?
