It seems to me that she has already managed to find an acceptable cure on her
own. I'm not sure why you want to mess with it. The Plasticovers are
perfectly adequate reeds that respond very much like cane. Several of the
players in my community band use them, and I keep a few on-hand for
emergencies. Unless you have some strong suspicion that the Plasticovers are
hampering her development (which I strongly doubt), in my humble opinion, you
should not allow your prejudice to get in the way of a perfectly fine
adaptation.

She HAS that: the plastic coating of the reed.
