Hi all,

This is to second Annnie Lenoir's praise for the
Kovacs "Hommages"; how this guy manages to write
convincingly in the style of so many different
composers is beyond me, but this is by far one of the
best collections I've ever seen. Hommage a Bach is on
the bill for my noon-hour recital at the university
(ok incoming advert: Univ.of Toronto on Jan. 16, free,
in Walter Hall). I love the Weber, Bartok, de Falla
and Strauss ones too. A graduate student of mine, Kim
Parsons brought in the de Falla and it knocked my
socks off.

I have a question about Zonda reeds: I've been trying
some and love them! But I confess to always having a
bit of fear about switching to non-Vandoren (or
Rico)reeds: I know that when I'm long in the grave
these 2 large companies will still be churning out
cane, but does anyone know about the company producing
Zondas? Have they been around a while, is this a Rico
or other conglomerate's subsidiary? I believe the cane
comes from Argentina, I wonder if future political
disturbance might disrupt the supply of cane. I seem
to remember that about half a century ago Morre reeds
were many great players' favourite, but I think
they're gone, and I believe Olivieri stopped making
reeds for a while (forgive me if this is incorrect).
Opinions anyone?
