Hi folks,

As I posted a while back, I have been searching for copies
of records/CD's that my father (Phil Olivella) had played
clarinet/sax on.

During my searches, I discovered some new places that I
hadn't ordered from before - thought I'd pass the info along
to any of you who may not be familiar w/these stores - if
you are having trouble finding a CD, especially a rare jazz
item, you might want to check them out - both have hard to
find stuff, very good prices, & free shipping:

*****************************************************************
http://www.musica.co.uk
Located in Hartfield, England (birthplace of Winnie The
Pooh!). Very friendly & helpful e-mails. Free shipping
worldwide (rare for any store to offer that!).

http://www.jazsound.com/
Located in Philadelphia - free shipping in the USA on 2 or
more items.
*******************************************************************

Have any of you dealt w/either of these places? I just
placed my orders, so I can't comment on service at this
time. If they can get hold of what I ordered, I will now
have several more items that my dad played on.

For anyone interested, if you have any of these titles, my
father played clarinet or sax on all or some tracks:

**********************************************************************************
Wingy Manone - "1939-1940" - CD (he would have been just
21-22 years old here!)

Earl Bostic - "EP Collection Vol. 2" - CD

"The Many Faces of Boogie Woogie" - CD

Danny O'keefe - "O'keefe" - LP/CD - O'keefe's second album
from 1972. Contains the top 10 hit "Good Time Charlie's Got
The Blues", which, interestingly, was also recorded by Elvis
Presley, Willie Nelson, Charlie Rich, Leon Russell, Jerry
Lee Lewis, Earl Klugh, Chet Atkins, Dwight Yoakum, Waylon
Jennings, Charlie McCoy, Mel Torme, and others. (CD is out
of print & hard to find - found a couple on Ebay but was
outbid each time - I have the LP - if anyone has an extra
copy of this CD for sale, please let me know!!)
************************************************************************************

I know this is no big deal to most folks, but it was very
exciting for me to find this stuff, as I have very little
recorded material of my dad. I so wish he had lived to see
many of these tracks re-released on CD....

(For anyone interested, as I previously posted, he played
with many of the big band orchestras in the '30's & '40's in
NYC & on the road - Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, Teddy Powell,
etc., & was a CBS staff musician [Jack Sterling Radio Show,
TV - Gary Moore Show, Jimmy Dean Show, Ed Sullivan Show].)

Also, I would greatly appreciate it if any of you would keep
an eye out & let me know if you have any music other than
the above titles, that lists his name in the credits. He did
many recording sessions w/various artists/bands/orchestras
throughout his career, & I'm certain that there is a lot of
stuff out there that he played on.

One other record I remember him playing clarinet on was
"Eccentric" - a dixieland song from way back - I had several
78 copies of this, but all were lost (along w/other
records/tapes of his) during a move - any chance any of you
have a copy of this?

I'm assuming that session musicians are usually only paid
for the recording session, right? No chance the family has
any royalties coming to us now that some of these tracks
have been re-released - hahaha?! :-) As a kid, I don't
remember him receiving any royalty checks, just being paid
for the gig. But on some of these releases, he was an actual
member of the band, not just a session musician.

Thanks for any info/help!!!

Janine
